DUNGARVAN:  2 SPOONBILLS again at Killongford, Green Sandpiper at Ballyneety, & 4 Mediterranean Gulls - adult at Killongford, 1st-summer & 2 adults including '3H97' at Barnawee.
BALLYQUIN STRAND (nr Ardmore):  10 Common Sandpipers.
 
Fri 30 July:
DUNGARVAN:  Green Sandpiper at Ballyneety.
 
Thurs 29 July:
COLLIGAN WOOD:  9 Purple Hairstreak butterflies.
 
Weds 28 July:
KILMURRY (nr Dungarvan):  Long-eared Owl fledgling.
 
Tues 27 July:
DUNGARVAN:  Little Tern & juvenile Mediterranean Gull off pitch & putt course, Green Sandpiper at Ballyneety.
 
Mon 26July:
BALLYSCANLON:  4 Choughs.
 
Sun 25 July:
DUNGARVAN:  3  Mediterranean Gulls at Barnawee (1st-summer & 2 adults including darvic-ringed '3H97'). 
 
Sat 24 July:
DUNGARVAN:  2 SPOONBILLS at Western Bay, 3 adult Mediterranean Gulls (one with white darvic ring off pitch & putt course, 2 unringed birds at Barnawee), Green Sandpiper & 20+ Common Sandpipers at Ballyneety bridge.
CLONEA STRAND:  15-20 Common Scoter west off Ballinclamper.
HELVICK HEAD: Storm Petrel, 2 Great Skuas, 11 Common Scoter, 2 Arctic Terns & 7 Puffins west (seawatch 07:30-09:20), also 240 Manx Shearwaters west in first hour & 4 Black Guillemots on sea.
Nr WHITING BAY:  Juvenile Tree Sparrow at Ballysallagh.
 
Fri 23 July:
Nr BUNMAHON:  Reed Warbler at Seafield.
 
Sun 18 July:
DUNGARVAN:  2 sub-adult SPOONBILLS at Killongford (including a colour-ringed bird recently seen at Timoleague, Co Cork); also an Arctic Tern & 750+ Black-tailed Godwits there; Green Sandpiper & 2 adult Mediterranean Gulls at Ballyneety; good numbers of Common Sandpipers.
HELVICK HEAD:  Balearic Shearwater & small numbers of Storm Petrels west, evening.  Earlier, totals of c47 Storm Petrels, 9 Great Skuas, 2 Arctic Skuas, 6 Arctic Terns & 38+ Puffins west (4.75 hrs of seawatching 11:30-17:15).
KNOCKMEALDOWN MOUNTAINS:  Merlin.
BROWNSTOWN HEAD:  Balearic Shearwater feeding & west, also 2 Storm Petrels & 4 Puffins west (seawatch 09:00-10:00).
 
Fri 16 Sat 17:
CLONEA STRAND:  Adult Arctic Tern, Whimbrel & Black Guillemot at Ballinclamper.
Nr CLONMEL:  Spotted Flycatcher & 3 Jays at Kilmanahan East.
 
Fri 16 July:
CLONEA STRAND:  Adult Roseate Tern at Ballinclamper.
 
Weds 14 July:
DUNGARVAN:  Adult Mediterranean Gull at Barnawee.
CLONEA STRAND:  Common Sandpiper & 3 Spotted Flycatchers at Ballinclamper.
 
Tues 13 July:
CLONEA STRAND:  6 Mediterranean Gulls at Ballinclamper (2 juveniles & 4 adults, including bird with white darvic ring 3H97 returning for its fourth year).
KILMACTHOMAS:  Green Sandpiper on river bank at Mahon Mills apartments.
 
Sun 11 July:
KILBARRY BOG:  Reed Warbler singing & 3 Water Rails calling.
 
Sat 10 July:
HELVICK HEAD: Adult LONG-TAILED SKUA east into Dungarvan Bay then west again; also 11+ Storm Petrels, 6 Great Skuas & 7 Common Scoters west, & 33+ Puffins west or on sea or cliffs (seawatch 11:00-14:30).
DUNGARVAN:  Adult Mediterranean Gull & 4 Common Sandpipers at Ballyneety Bridge.
CLONEA STRAND:  4 Common Sandpipers at Ballyvoyle; 4 Storm Petrels south & 3 Common Scoter on sea off Ballinclamper.
 
Fri 9 July:
RAM HEAD:  12+ Fin Whales.  c12 Storm Petrels later seen from a boat offshore.
DUNGARVAN:  4 Common Sandpipers at Ballyneety Bridge.
 
Thurs 8 July:
Nr LEMYBRIEN:  Kingfisher at Fox's Castle Bridge & Spotted Flycatcher near Curraheen.
CLONEA STRAND:  Adult Mediterranean Gull at Ballinclamper.
 
Tues 6 July:
HELVICK HEAD:  Great Skua & 14 Puffins flew west (1 Puffin east) (seawatch 19:00-20:00).
 
Mon 5 July:
RAM HEAD:  Fin Whale, probable Humpback Whale & 200+ Manx Shearwaters. Further details here (Irish Whale & Dolphin Group website).
 
4-5 July 2010:
KNOCKMEALDOWN MOUNTAINS: Male, female & juvenile Hen Harriers.
 
Sun 4 July:
DUNGARVAN:  Green Sandpiper & 7 Common Sandpipers at Ballyneety.
Nr BUNMAHON:  Water Rail calling at Seafield.
BROWNSTOWN HEAD:  Pair of Tree Sparrows at old farm buildings; 3 Storm Petrels & a Puffin flew west (seawatch 13:00-13:30).
 
Sat 3 July:
DUNGARVAN:  2 or 3 Mediterranean Gulls (2nd-summer at Ballyneety, adult Abbeyside to Cunnigar tip & adult at Barnawee Bridge), 7 Common Sandpipers at Ballyneety.
1st-summer Mediterranean Gull & returning colour-ringed Black-headed Gull adult "238B".
Nr BALLYMACARBRY:  3 Jays east of Boolabrien Lower.
MID WATERFORD:  Buzzard.
Nr WATERFORD CITY:  Dead Barn Owl on new ring road (Co Kilkenny) between Slieverue & new bridge
 
Fri 2 July:
Nr WATERFORD CITY:  3 Green Sandpipers at Ballycanvan, behind Beckett's, Dunmore Road.
BUNMAHON:  Common Sandpiper.
CLONEA STRAND:  1st-summer Mediterranean Gull & returning colour-ringed Black-headed Gull adult "238B".

CROHAUN:  Long-eared Owl young calling, also a Woodcock.
 
Mon 28 June:
CLONEA STRAND:  2nd-summer Mediterranean Gull, male Tufted Duck & 3 Common Sandpipers at Ballinclamper, and an Arctic Skua offshore.
 
Sun 27 June:
BLACKWATER VALLEY:  Spotted Flycatcher at Rincrew wood.
 
Sat 26 June:
KNOCKMEALDOWN MOUNTAINS: 5 Woodcock, Cuckoo & reeling Grasshopper Warbler at Knockadav, another Cuckoo at Waterford side of the Vee.
Nr KILROSSANTY:  Long-eared Owl.
 
Thurs 24 June:
ARDMORE: 4-6 Mediterranean Gulls at beach, including 3+ 2nd-summer & 1+ 1st-summer bird.
RAM HEAD:  Minke Whale.
 
Weds 23 June:
Nr KNOCKMEALDOWN MOUNTAINS: Woodcock roding nr Glentaunemon Bridge, Cuckoo calling Boggaghbaun / Boggaghduff, Spotted Flycatcher, Boggaghbaun & 3+ nr Knockaungarriff.
 
Sun 20 June:
WEST WATERFORD:  EAGLE OWL - apparently ill or injured - found and taken into care.  The bird showed clear signs (feather damage and perhaps its inability or unwillingness to fly) of having escaped or having been released from recent captivity, but otherwise now seems healthy and is eating well (@ 23 June).  There is a previous confirmed record of an escaped Eagle Owl in Co Kerry in 2008 (recaptured amid sensationalist media coverage!),  and there have been reports or rumours of sightings in Northern Ireland and elsewhere.  Irish reports (if genuine) are presumed to involved escaped or perhaps deliberately released birds.  (In Britain, sightings are more frequent but the majority, perhaps all, are again considered to involve or derive from escaped or released birds.)
BLACKWATER VALLEY: 7 singing Reed Warblers & 4 Spotted Flycatchers at Camphire.
RINCREW (nr Youghal): Glaucous Gull at Co Waterford side.
SEAFIELD (nr Bunmahon):  Cuckoo calling.
POLLRONE (Co Kilkenny opposite Coolfin):  Pair of Tree Sparrows nesting.
MOONVEEN (Co Kilkenny opposite Mount Congreve): 3 Jays.
 
Sat 19 June:
KNOCKMEALDOWN MOUNTAINS: Male Crossbill nr Mt Melleray; Cuckoo calling & Woodcock roding nr Glentaunemon Bridge, the Vee; 4 Crossbills & a female Hen Harrier elsewhere.
ARDMORE:  1st-summer Mediterranean Gull at Curragh beach.
TOWER HILL (nr Portlaw):  Woodcock roding.
FENOR BOG:  Grasshopper Warbler singing.
BALLYSCANLON LAKE:  Spotted Flycatcher.
 
Weds 16 June:
BROWNSTOWN HEAD: IBERIAN CHIFFCHAFF (1st Irish record) singing in main willow garden.  See video sound-footage (c) Paul Moore.  Further details here.
NORTH WATERFORD:  Marsh Fritillary butterfly between Cannon Hill (SW of Clonmel) and Cahernaleague, Ballinamult: hit windscreen of car along route.  This species has apparently not been seen in Co Waterford since the 1970s.
CROUGHAUN HILL:  2 Woodock roding.
DURROW BRIDGE (nr Stradbally):  Spotted Flycatcher.
 
Tues 15 June:
BALLINTLEA (nr Crohaun): 2-3 Woodcock roding.
ANNESTOWN BOG:  Grasshopper Warbler singing.
CARRICK-ON-SUIR (Co Tipperary): Grasshopper Warbler near castle.
 
Sun 13 June:
CROUGHAUN HILL (nr Kilmacthomas): 2 Woodcock roding.
 
Mon 14 June:
CORBALLY BEG (nr Ballymacaw): Tree Sparrow.
KILMEADEN POOLS:  3 Tufted Duck.
 
Sat 12 June:
Nr TALLOW: Jay, Lyrenacarriga / Ballycondon & Spotted Flycatcher, Shean More.
RAM HEAD: 174 occupied Kittiwake nests in study plots (most of colony), a slight increase from 169 last year.
 
Weds 9 June:
BLACKWATER VALLEY: 6 Reed Warblers singing at Camphire, also a Spotted Flycatcher & 36 Long-tailed Tits.
COOLYDOODY WOOD (nr Tallow): Jay in Co Cork part of wood.
MID WATERFORD:  Buzzard.
 
Mon 7 June:
HELVICK HEAD: 5 Storm Petrels & 2 Puffins west, Great Skua (seawatch 18:15-19:00).
 
Sun 6 June:
RAM HEAD:  Storm Petrel, Great Skua, skua species & a Common Dolphin.
Nr ARDMORE:  2+ Tree Sparrows (& a nest with chicks) along Ardoginna / Goat Island road.
 
Sat 5 June:
BALLYSCANLAN LAKE:  HOBBY & 3 Spotted Flycatchers.
EAST WATERFORD:  Buzzard.
KILMEADEN POOLS:  Female Gadwall.
MONAVULLAGH MOUNTAINS:  Cuckoo at Bohadoon, Cuckoo & 4 Green Hairstreak butterflies at Coumaraglinmountain.
Nr DUNGARVAN:  Spotted Flycatcher, Ballycullane & Windgap to Ballyharrahan.
WEST WATERFORD:  Male Hen Harrier.
 
Weds 2 June:
BALLYSCANLAN LAKE:  OSPREY & HOBBIES.
 
Tues 1 June:
BALLYSCANLAN LAKE:  OSPREY, 3 HOBBIES & a Cuckoo.
